JO LEWIS

Fine mixed media artist and PhD student producing expressive acrylic and textile art bringing forward powerful symbolism and storytelling inspired by African inspired themes.

Jocelyn’s practice uses portraiture, African textiles, and diasporic symbolism to preserve memory, affirm Black identity, challenge erasure and misrepresentation, and reconnect cultural narratives across generations while inviting reflection, dialogue, and deeper understanding.

CURRENT WORK

Jocelyn Lewis is a first year PhD student at Florida State University studying Museum Education and Visitor Center Curation, where she focuses on how museums create engaging, inclusive learning experiences and exhibitions that connect visitors to history, culture, and art. She has contributed to numerous exhibitions and aims to become a museum curator and exhibition designer, growing into a leadership role that shapes curatorial vision and visitor experience.
